SEN Teacher – Autism & SEMH

Sense Education is working in partnership with a specialist school in Carlisle to recruit a committed SEN Teacher. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a nurturing and supportive educational environment.

The Role
As an SEN Teacher, you will:
* Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to meet the individual needs of pupils.
* Lead a small class of pupils with Autism and SEMH needs, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
* Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, therapists, and external professionals to provide holistic support.
* Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies to maximise outcomes.
* Support pupils in developing communication, social, emotional, and independence skills.
* Use positive behaviour management strategies to promote engagement, self-regulation, and achievement.
* Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure consistent support for pupils.
* Create a safe, stimulating, and well-organised classroom environment that encourages learning and development.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
* Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
* Has experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly Autism and/or SEMH needs.
* Is passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
* Can adapt their teaching approach to meet a range of learning styles and abilities.
* Demonstrates patience, empathy, resilience, and a positive attitude.
* Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Is committed to promoting inclusion, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for every child.
Working Hours and Details
* Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm
* Term time only
* Location - Carlisle
* Role Type: Full Time / Temp - Perm/ Part time

A current Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the DBS Update Service is desirable. If you do not have an active subscription, a new DBS application may be required as part of the registration process.
If employed through Sense Education, you will be paid on a weekly basis. All quoted pay rates include 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
This position is initially offered on a long-term temporary basis, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
