Product Design Engineer (On-site, London) – Sunday Lighting
Sunday Lighting is building lighting that recreates the feel and physiological effects of real daylight. We’re makers first: build, test, refine: then ship beautifully engineered products
We’re hiring a Product Design Engineer with 3+ years’ experience to take ideas from sketch to shipped hardware. You’ll own CAD in SolidWorks, drive DFM, and manage BOMs. You’ll also work directly with suppliers and factories to turn designs into reliable, manufacturable products.
What you’ll do
* Create new products and evolve existing ones with clear attention to form, functionality and manufacturing.
* Build clean, well-structured SolidWorks CAD; prepare drawings and release packs; own the BOM.
* Lead DFM: simplify assemblies, improve tolerances and fit, reduce parts and cost while protecting quality.
* Source components and suppliers; run RFQs; compare samples; track cost, lead time and quality.
* Work closely with suppliers and factories worldwide to ensure delivery (including occasional travel)
* Prototype in our workshop, test, iterate, and feed improvements back into design.
What you’ll bring:
* 3+ years shipping physical products as a Product/Mechanical/Industrial Design Engineer.
* SolidWorks proficiency (parts, assemblies, drawings).
* Proven DFM experience and BOM ownership from prototype through to production.
* Confidence working with suppliers/factories; comfortable balancing cost, quality and timelines.
* A maker’s mindset: pace, ownership and pride in well-made things.
Nice-to-have (not required)
* Comfortable on the tools (3D printing, basic jigs/fixtures, hand-assembly).
* Clear written documentation for suppliers and internal builds.
The setup
* Full-time, on-site in our workshop (Park Royal, London) .
* Competitive salary + stock options.
* Travel to suppliers/factories as needed (UK/EU/Asia).
We value people who take ownership, sweat the details and love a fast paced environment. If that’s you, we’d love to hear from you.
