Overview
The University Medical Group is a standalone practice operating over one site and is the largest in West Berkshire with over 32,000 patients. We are based in Reading near the University sites where we have over 9,000 students as patients. We are looking for a GP to work 6 sessions over Monday, Tuesday and Friday. A normal 2‑session day runs from 08:00 – 18:30 (8.875 hours). A special interest in women's health is desirable. Main duties of the job
To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract. The post‑holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contribute to effective practice management, lead by example, and maintain a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team. Job responsibilities
Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract, including additional and enhanced services where appropriate. Provide other general medical services to meet identified patient needs. Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other healthcare professionals within the organisation. Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness. Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice protocols, disease‑management protocols, provide counselling and health education. Work within current ICB policy for prescribing. Be available and accessible to patients at all times as agreed. Maximise the effective use of current clinical computer systems and record clear, contemporaneous consultation notes to an agreed standard. Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions. Undertake all duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, including reporting requirements. Take part in, and lead, areas such as clinical auditing and data collection. Support undergraduate student training in the surgery. Support GP registrar training in practice. Attend team meetings and other clinical meetings as necessary. Provide short‑term emergency cover for unplanned absence of colleagues. Provide emergency on‑call cover for the practice. You will join a clinical team consisting of 3 GP partners, 17 salaried GPs, 3 paramedics, 4 practice nurses, 1 nursing associate, 1 HCA, and a broad range of allied healthcare professionals including a pharmacy team, first‑contact practitioners, social prescribers and care coordinators. Registered GP with the GMC. Must possess the right to work in the UK and be on the NHS Performers List. Ability to provide quality care. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of EMIS. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
