The Water / Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) Laboratory Technician is a fixed-term position (6 months) from July to December, supporting our site team in Ledbury that treats wastewater from beverage manufacturing. The technician will conduct safe and efficient water sample testing at various stages of the effluent treatment process to evaluate treatment effectiveness and verify the quality of the final effluent before discharge.
Responsibilities include collecting samples from designated points, performing routine laboratory analyses—primarily using photo-spectrometry and test kits—and recording results accurately. The role requires following Good Laboratory Practice principles, maintaining a clean environment, and adhering to health and safety policies, including proper PPE usage.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Handling samples carefully from collection to disposal.
* Performing routine analysis according to procedures and HSE protocols.
* Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and equipment care.
* Following instructions from the Site Team Leader regarding daily priorities.
* Optimizing use of laboratory consumables to reduce waste.
* Conducting daily equipment checks and calibrations.
* Ensuring data integrity and accurate recording of results.
* Adhering to PPE and safety guidelines in the laboratory.
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
* GCSEs in English, Math, and Science.
* Further education in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math.
* Accuracy in measurements and weighing.
* Knowledge of laboratory health and safety standards (e.g., COSHH, risk assessments).
* Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications:
* Experience in water, wastewater, food, or beverage industries.
Working for us means:
* Salary between £25,500 and £27,000 per year, depending on experience.
* 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, with overtime at 1.5x.
* 25 days holiday plus 8 statutory days.
