About The Role As a Planning Supervisor, you are the strategic leader responsible for driving operational performance, planning accuracy, and commercial efficiency across your assigned regions. Leading a team of Planning Coordinators, you will ensure that every work order is planned, scheduled, and delivered with precision, maximising productivity, protecting commercial value, and upholding our service and compliance standards. Reporting to the Planning Manager, you will be accountable for ensuring that planning excellence becomes an embedded way of working, continuously improving processes and supporting your team to deliver high-quality, first time-right outcomes for our field operations. Core Purpose To lead, develop, and manage the planning function for designated operational areas ensuring that all workstreams (Leakage, Lead, Metering, New Connections, Dig & Reinstatement) are scheduled safely, efficiently, and commercially optimised. You will create a culture of ownership, accountability, and operational discipline across your team. Key Responsibilities 1. Leadership & Team Management Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to Planning Coordinators, fostering high performance and ownership of their geographic areas. Drive consistency in planning standards, processes, and documentation across the team. Oversee allocation of workload and ensure adequate coverage, resilience, and balance across all workstreams. 2. Area Planning Ownership Maintain end-to-end oversight of planning performance across assigned regions, ensuring jobs progress smoothly from creation to completion. Act as escalation point for complex or high-risk planning issues, resolving blockers quickly and effectively. Ensure area plans support operational delivery targets, resource availability, and commercial objectives. 3. Review, challenge, and approve final schedules created by Planning Coordinators to ensure they meet operational and commercial targets. Work closely with Field Managers and operational leaders to refine crew allocation, sequence of works, and scheduling logic. 4. Commercial Accountability Track commercial KPIs such as job value, aborted visits, overruns, permit fines, and reinstatement costs. Ensure planning decisions support cost efficiency and protect commercial value across all workstreams. Identify areas of unnecessary cost or inefficiency and implement corrective actions within the team. 5. Streetworks & Compliance Oversight Ensure all notices, permits, and closures are raised accurately and on time, in line with NRSWA requirements. Monitor Streetworks performance to prevent avoidable fines and ensure timely close downs. Support the team in understanding regulatory requirements and maintaining high compliance standards. 6. Continuous Improvement Analyse performance data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities in planning processes. Lead targeted improvement initiatives across planning accuracy, scheduling efficiency, and commercial performance. Standardise best practices and update procedures as ways of working evolve. 7. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement Ensure customers receive timely communication for planned works, minimising disruption and improving satisfaction. Act as primary liaison for escalations from Field Operations, Customer Service, and Streetworks teams. Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a seamless delivery pipeline. Required Skills & Experience Experience Proven experience in planning, scheduling, or operational leadership within utilities, highways, construction, or field-based services. Strong understanding of Streetworks (NRSWA) processes and work management systems. Previous team leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred. Technical Competencies Proficiency in planning software, work order management systems, and Streetworks permitting platforms. Ability to interpret operational data and apply it to decision-making and performance improvement. Strong commercial acumen with the ability to make planning decisions that protect cost efficiency. Leadership & Behavioural Skills Confident leader with the ability to motivate, guide, and challenge a team. Excellent problem-solving capabilities especially under pressure or when plans must change rapidly. Clear and persuasive communicator, able to work effectively with planners, field teams, managers, and customers. Highly organised with a structured, disciplined approach to process management. Success in This Role Looks Like A high performing engaged team of Planning Coordinators who take full ownership of their areas. Consistently accurate, efficient schedules that optimise productivity and minimise downtime. Strong commercial performance and reduction of cost leakages (e.g., fines, rework, aborted jobs). A planning function that Field Operations trusts, values, and sees as a partner in delivery. Continuous improvement that enhances service, efficiency, and compliance across all planning activity.
