Locations: Force HQ/Newton Heath, Leigh, Longsight, Hough End/Greenheys, Claytonbrook, or mobile based at FHQ
Contract: 3 month fixed term contract with potential extension
Hours: Full time / Part time positions available
Pay Rate: £13.49 PAYE per hour
About the Role:
Greater Manchester Police is seeking reliable and hardworking Janitors to join our Business Support Services team. You will provide an efficient janitorial service, including cleaning, portering, and minor repair works, ensuring our facilities are safe, clean, and welcoming.
This is a physically active role, requiring attention to detail, initiative, and a commitment to health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
General cleaning of offices, grounds, car parks, and high-level surfaces.
Minor maintenance: replacing light bulbs, fixing shelves and curtain rails, painting, and small repairs.
Moving furniture and equipment; receiving deliveries and handling waste/refuse.
Winter duties including gritting car parks and walkways.
Setting up and breaking down rooms for meetings, seminars, and training.
Completing basic safety checks (fire alarms, lifts, ladders, asbestos monitoring).
Supporting colleagues and assisting in training new staff.
Essential skills and experience:
Previous janitorial, portering, or caretaking experience in medium to large organisations.
Ability to carry out minor repairs and general portering/cleaning tasks.
Fit for physically demanding duties including lifting, bending, and moving equipment/furniture.
Knowledge of basic cleaning equipment, materials, and methods.
Good verbal and written English communication skills.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
Good attendance and performance record.
