Overview
Digital Solutions and Digital Infrastructure are responsible for providing, developing and maintaining IT facilities and services across the University, supporting staff and students. We have a good reputation within the University, providing reliable and resilient infrastructure, services, systems and facilities. The Edge Device Team is responsible for the procurement, development and delivery of all edge devices, including 1000 shared use open access computers, 2500 desktop devices, 200 fully equipped teaching spaces and 60 software packages (purchased and created in house). This role as an Edge Device Technician in Digital Infrastructure will work with this team to form part of this delivery.
Members of the team are also expected to work with the Edge Device Team Leader and End User Technology Manager to ensure the service provided is fit for purpose within given budgetary constraints.
This role also forms part of a seasonal rota to provide support to the University’s front of house and Product Support teams.
Purpose of the Job
A member of the team responsible for the supply, management and maintenance of the staff and student desktop/laptop computers and the equipment in teaching spaces across the University.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support all desktop computers throughout the University including deployment of software, setup and maintenance using enterprise deployment tools; Microsoft Intune and JAMF.
2. Supporting end users and other ITS staff in the use of these systems through training as directed by the team manager.
3. Work within the wider directorate to deliver projects as required.
4. Setting up and maintaining Windows/Mac computers for use in offices, research labs and lecture rooms.
5. Assist with the set up and installation of Audio-Visual equipment in teaching spaces.
6. Assist with the evaluation of new hardware and software for suitability in our environment, provide recommendations and suggest alternatives if not suitable.
7. This role also exists to provide second line support to users of IT systems and equipment in the university.
8. Reporting to the Edge Device Team leader.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
9. To work as part of a team under direction.
10. To take responsibility for completing designated tasks.
11. To attend team/School/Unit meetings.
12. Ensure equipment stores are kept in an ordered and tidy fashion.
13. Keeping records of equipment up to date in the systems provided.
14. Current knowledge of relevant internal/external regulations, i.e. relating to the computer supply policy, information security and data protection policy and IT acceptable use policy.
15. The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
20. 2 AS Levels or 1 A Level or NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
Desirable
21. NVQ level 4 in a relevant subject area.
22. A recognised technical qualification in IT or Computing.
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
23. Able to demonstrate substantial working experience with Windows and Mac Operating Systems in a similar role.
24. Experience setting up and maintaining Windows/Mac computers for use in offices, research labs or lecture rooms.
25. Demonstrate the ability to contribute to computer purchasing recommendations on the ITS web site.
26. Demonstrate the ability to follow operating procedures.
27. Demonstrate an interest in Audio-Visual presentation systems.
Desirable
28. Knowledge of Enterprise Deployment Solutions; Microsoft Intune or JAMF.
29. Evaluating new hardware and software for suitability in our environment, provide recommendations and suggest alternatives if not suitable.
