About Our School
Hurley Primary is a warm, welcoming village school set in beautiful rural surroundings. Our small, supportive team is committed to making school a positive, safe and inspiring place for children to learn. We are now looking for a reliable, practical and proactive Caretaker to help keep our site clean, safe and well-maintained for our children, staff and visitors.

What You’ll Be Doing
Your role will be varied and rewarding, helping ensure the smooth daily running of the school. Key responsibilities include:
Site Security & Safety
• Open and lock up the school premises each day
• Act as a keyholder, responding to alarm callouts when needed
• Carry out regular checks to ensure the site is safe, secure, and hazard-free
• Support fire safety procedures and emergency access
Maintenance & Repairs
• Conduct minor maintenance (e.g. basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry)
• Monitor the condition of the building and site, reporting issues as needed
• Supervise contractors and check completed work
• Ensure heating and hot water systems operate effectively
Cleaning & Hygiene
• Supervise cleaning staff and support high cleaning standards throughout the school
• Carry out regular checks and manage supplies of cleaning materials
• Ensure hall floor is treated at regular intervals
Grounds & External Areas
• Keep paths and play areas clean and safe (e.g. clear litter, manage snow/flood access)
• Check drains and gutters regularly
• Basic garden maintenance such as cutting back foliage and weeding
Logistics & Support
• Receive and manage deliveries and stock
• Move furniture/equipment as needed
• Support school lettings and events outside normal hours
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who:
• Takes pride in keeping things clean, safe and in good order
• Is proactive and can work independently, but also enjoys being part of a team
• Is confident with practical tasks, tools and minor repairs
• Has good organisational skills and attention to detail
• Brings a friendly, can-do attitude to their work
Experience in a similar role is helpful but not essential—training will be provided.
You’ll Also Need To:
• Understand basic health & safety and COSHH guidance (or be willing to learn)
• Be physically fit and able to carry out a variety of tasks
• Show commitment to safeguarding children and young people
