SEN Science Teacher

Are you resilient, passionate about science, and committed to supporting young learners with complex needs to reach their full potential? Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated SEN Science Teacher to join a specialist setting.

The setting provides education for pupils with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Pupils follow highly personalised learning pathways tailored to their individual needs, ensuring every learner can access education in a meaningful and engaging way.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference, using creative, practical, and sensory approaches to support pupils in developing scientific understanding, curiosity, independence, and life skills within a nurturing and structured environment.

About the Role:

As an SEN Science Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated science lessons that are accessible to all learners. You will work closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists, support staff, and parents/carers to ensure a consistent, personalised approach to learning.

You will create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment where pupils can explore science through practical, sensory, and experiential learning, progressing in line with their EHCPs.

This is a part-time role, Monday - Wednesday for one academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Planning and delivering creative, adapted science lessons aligned with EHCP targets • Differentiating learning to meet a wide range of needs including PMLD, SLD, and ASD • Using practical, sensory, and hands-on approaches to make science accessible • Leading and managing Teaching Assistants to provide consistent classroom support • Using communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, and sensory tools • Supporting pupils during regulated and dysregulated behaviours using de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies • Assessing, tracking, and reporting pupil progress in line with personalised learning outcomes • Creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment • Encouraging curiosity, independence, emotional wellbeing, and life skills • Liaising with parents, carers, and external professionals to support pupil development

Requirements:

Essential:

* Confident, proactive, and able to use initiative when teaching pupils with complex needs
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
* Experience working with children or young people with PMLD, SLD, ASD, or complex needs
* Strong understanding of differentiated teaching and personalised learning Patient, creative, and resilient with a genuine passion for SEN and science education
* Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Committed to a long-term role

Desirable: • Science specialism or experience teaching science within SEN settings • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods • Experience delivering sensory or practical-based curriculum • Team Teach or behaviour management training
