Teacher of PE
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspiring Teacher of PE who is also committed to extra-curricular sport. This is an excellent opportunity for an ECT or an experienced teacher looking to further develop their teaching and pedagogy in a supportive environment.
The successful candidate will share our commitment to high standards of professionalism and academic achievement and will be eager to develop their own practice in an environment that is both supportive and at the cutting edge of pedagogy. The department takes a collaborative approach to learning and teaching, valuing everyone’s individual personalities, skills, interests, and strategies. We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for sport and for teaching young people. Most importantly, they must have the ability to inspire students and the willingness to go the extra mile to help them achieve their full potential. The ability to teach PE to A Level is not essential; however, opportunities exist for candidates who wish to teach at Key Stage 5.
Extra-curricular sport is an extremely important part of our curriculum offer, and we are looking for a candidate who is committed to running sports teams both before and after school.
Students at SJB study PE to develop a lifelong commitment to health and fitness. They build physical literacy and experience positive engagement with physical activity, fostering confidence in their abilities. PE also develops a range of key life skills, including leadership, teamwork, and resilience in response to both physical and mental challenges. For many students, physical education becomes a significant passion and can inspire curiosity about human health and performance.
We have an extremely well-resourced department, including a six-badminton court sports hall, gymnastics/dance studio, fitness suite, four netball/tennis courts, and extensive playing fields. These facilities enable us to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum to all students. PE is very popular at both GCSE and A Level, with strong outcomes: the department achieved 77% grade 4+ at GCSE last summer, and A Level results are also excellent, with 91% A*–C.
The successful candidate will be well supported and will have access to excellent professional development opportunities both within the department and across the wider Trust. Subject-specific training will be provided in any areas where the candidate may have less experience.
