Company Description
Rooney Family Law is one of Scotland’s leading niche family law practices, known for clear, pragmatic, and results-driven advice delivered with genuine care for our clients. Established eight years ago, the firm has grown steadily from two staff to a full specialist team and has maintained an almost perfect retention rate throughout that time.
We act across the full spectrum of family law: divorce and financial provision, cohabitation claims, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, separation agreements, adoption, and child law. Our work regularly involves high-net-worth and complex financial cases, and we conduct Sheriff Court and Court of Session litigation throughout Scotland.
We are a modern, paper-light firm using LEAP as our cloud-based case management system, supported by a strong administrative and paralegal team. We pride ourselves on being professional yet approachable, maintaining high standards while offering a flexible and supportive working culture.
Role Description
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Family Law Solicitor (minimum five years PQE) to join our expanding team.
The successful candidate will spend at least two days per week in our new Hamilton office with the core team, with regular use of our new Glasgow office at Blythswood Square and travel to other locations as required. Some hybrid working is available for the right candidate.
You will manage your own caseload of high-quality family work, including complex financial provision on divorce, cohabitation claims, and separation agreements, while supporting junior solicitors on major cases. You will also handle child-related work and have regular advocacy exposure.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join one of the fastest-growing specialist family law firms in Scotland and to work on challenging, novel, and high-value cases in a supportive, ambitious environment.
Qualifications and Experience
•Minimum five years’ post-qualification experience in family law.
•Proven ability to handle complex financial provision and cohabitation claims from instruction to conclusion.
•Confident advocacy skills with experience in both Sheriff Court and Court of Session procedure.
•Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
•Commercial awareness and ability to build strong client relationships.
•Interest in mentoring or supporting less experienced team members.
What We Offer
•Competitive salary and performance-linked bonus.
•Regular exposure to high-value, complex and novel family law work.
•Opportunities for career progression within a growing, forward-thinking firm.
•Flexible hybrid model with scope to work across our Hamilton, Glasgow and other locations.
•Supportive working environment and excellent team culture.
If you are an ambitious family law solicitor seeking to specialise further in complex financial provision work and to play a key role in a progressive specialist practice, we would be pleased to hear from you.
