Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dynamic healthcare support worker to join our team on 6D Specialist Cardiology Ward at Barts Heart Centre

Ward 6D is a specialist cardiology ward, where we care for a variety of patients with cardiac problems, working collaboratively with multiple medical teams. Our caseload includes patients with congenital heart conditions, heart failure, inherited cardiovascular disease and infective endocarditis. We also look after patients post complex cardiac surgery and post structural procedures. Our vision is to be a leading and innovative nursing and AHP centre providing exceptional care and patient experience. Main duties of the job

The healthcare support worker will work across
the team to gain experience in looking after a varied range of specialist cardiology patients, offering unique opportunities to develop skills and experience in cardiology care. The ward has specialist equipment such as cardiac monitors, providing healthcare support workers with palatable skills for development in cardiology nursing.

The post holder will be required to provide the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, supervise and teach junior members of staff as required and maintain their own personal development with support from the nursing team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Literacy and numerary skills
2. Spoken and written English to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements (Adult Basic Skills Literary L2 and Numerary L1).
3. Evidence of ongoing professional development
4. Completed care certificate.
5. NVQ in health and social care level 2.

Desirable criteria

6. Level 2 support worker Apprenticeship

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Willingness to work towards development in the role
8. Demonstrates clear insight into the role
9. Experience in care delivery
10. Customer care and customer service experience
11. Experience of working within the boundaries of health and safety policies.

Desirable criteria

12. Previous experience of working in a health care setting
13. Previous cardiology ward experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria

14. Knowledge of when to seek help and advice and escalate appropriately.
15. Understands the importance of following procedures.

Skills

Essential criteria

16. English language skills, both written and orally.
17. Good interpersonal skills.
18. Ability to work as a team member.
19. Ability to be kind and compassionate when working under pressure.
20. IT knowledge and skills.

21. Extended roles in venepuncture, cannulation, ECG recording, observations/ willingness to work towards
