Job overview

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals offers an appointment for a full time Ophthalmology Specialist. This is a substantive post; the Candidate will be a senior non-consultant member of the Ophthalmology Service.

The post holder will be expected to manage Ophthalmology and emergency patients and will be expected to deliver appropriate subspecialty care potentially to include, corneal, glaucoma or medical retina.

Main duties of the job

1. Urgent Care Clinics
2. Subspecialty clinics: The Candidate will support the Corneal, glaucoma and medical retina team and other subspecialties dependent on service demand and skillset
3. Independent Laser clinics where appropriate
4. Potential for surgery is optional dependent on skill set and theatre availability

The post holder will be expected to supervise trainees and other junior staff and be part of teaching and training of medical and non- medical staff.

The appointee must be experienced in leading clinical audits.

The post holder will be expected to primarily work at Scarborough Hospital but also other east coast hospital sites including Malton and Bridlington where needed.

5. Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in Ophthalmology

6. Experience of teaching undergraduate and post graduate trainees
7. Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings

8. Publications in peer review journals

Qualifications

Essential criteria

14. Hold a medical qualification
15. Completed a Minimum of 12 years medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification with a minimum of 6 years in Ophthalmology
16. Registered with and holds a licence to practice with the General Medical Council

17. Substantive NHS experience
