Marine Procurement (MPL) are a member of the Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) Group of companies, who are recognised today as one of the most diverse and dynamic marine transportation solution providers in the world. ECO operates a growing fleet of well over 200 vessels, ranging from tugs to specialised construction vessels. The ability to design, build, own, and operate diverse, high-capacity and technologically superior vessels has made ECO an unrivalled leader in the maritime industry.
At MPL, we undertake major procurement activities for the ECO Group, whilst working with our Engineering function to develop and procure major components, systems, and equipment for shipbuilding projects. We also support ECO Operations through the provision of spare parts and technical support.
The Role
MPL have two main customer regions, USA and Brazil, and the Spares Team are responsible for supporting both USA and Brazilian Operations and Maintenance. The objective of the role is to source and procure spare parts that deliver the optimum level of performance, with minimum lifecycle costs, and are delivered on time, as per both USA and Brazilian Operations and Maintenance requirements.
As a Buyer, you will be responsible for managing time critical orders and take proactive action to ensure orders are delivered as quickly and as cost effectively as possible. This will include working closely with suppliers, freight forwarders and customers to understand needs, whilst planning, executing and keeping all stakeholders informed of all critical orders.
A key aspect of the role is the effective management of suppliers. As a Buyer, you will be responsible for managing supplier performance and rectifying issues of non -performance. As we have an international supply chain, you will be required to travel both within the UK and internationally, sometimes at short notice, to help build and maintain supplier relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
Order Management
* Request quotations as per customer requirements
* Negotiate discounts, cost reductions and improved delivery times with suppliers
* Raise, issue, and manage purchase orders, ensuring on time delivery, whilst ensuring our ERP system is kept up to date.
* Manage high importance emergency spares and dry-docking orders, and work with suppliers and freight forwarders to plan and deliver to strict deadlines
* Resolve order related issues, ensuring suppliers and customers are kept up to date at all times
* Checking and approval of orders, ensuring accuracy and completeness prior to issue
Supplier and Customer Relationship Management
* Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and customers
* Responsible for vendor management for selected suppliers, including managingsupplier agreements and performance
* Identify and implement cost saving initiatives
* Understand customer requirements and identify and implement customer support improvements
Key Skills/Experience
* Previous experience working in a procurement role
* The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, where time is of the essence
* Enthusiastic and committed individual, with a positive can-do attitude
* The ability to clearly communicate and have excellent interpersonal skills
* The ability to take initiative and have good problem-solving skills
* Have excellent organisational skills
* Be a team player, who is confident working in a multi discipline team
* Working towards or have CIPS membership desirable, but not essential

Due to the rural location of our office, own transportation is essential.
