The role

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Project Officer to join the National Child Mortality Database (NCMD) team. This is a pivotal role supporting the delivery of a high-profile research programme that aims to improve outcomes for children across the UK. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of the project, with responsibility for a wide range of administrative, financial and contractual tasks. You will be part of a collaborative and supportive team, contributing to the success of a nationally significant programme. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong project coordination skills and a passion for making a difference.

What will you be doing?

You will play a key role in the day-to-day coordination of the project, managing a range of administrative, financial and contractual responsibilities to ensure smooth delivery. This includes monitoring budgets, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with funding and organisational requirements. You will also support the planning and delivery of project activities, including organising meetings, workshops and high-profile events, and maintaining accurate project documentation. As a central point of contact, you will liaise with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and information flow across the project. You will support the project's online presence, including updating the website and social media channels, and contribute to the production of reports and communications. In addition, you will assist with the preparation of funding proposals and support recruitment processes where needed. Working closely with the NCMD Operations Manager, Communications and Engagement Manager and other team members, you will help monitor progress against project objectives, identify and address any issues, and contribute to the overall success of the programme.

You should apply if

You are an experienced and highly organised project officer with a strong track record of supporting complex projects. You are passionate about working for a worthwhile NHS-funded research programme that strives to improve and save children's lives in the future. You work well with a broad range of people, have excellent communication skills, are proactive, self-motivated and have a keen eye for detail. You have the ability to manage competing priorities, solve problems independently, and work to tight deadlines. You will also bring strong IT skills, proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and web content management systems, and be comfortable managing data and producing reports. Experience of event coordination, financial monitoring, and supporting funding applications will be an advantage. Importantly, you will be able to show understanding and sensitivity to the subject matter, using a considered and tactful approach when working with colleagues, programme partners, members of the public, and occasionally bereaved families. If you are adaptable, collaborative, and motivated by the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful and impactful programme, we would love to hear from you.
