Job Title: Assistant Estimator
Location: Reading
Reporting To: Senior Estimator
Salary: Up to £50,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits
The Opportunity
An established and highly respected main contractor is seeking an Assistant Estimator to join its growing pre-construction team in Reading. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the preparation of multi-million-pound tenders across a diverse portfolio including commercial, education, and student accommodation projects.
Working closely with an experienced Senior Estimator, you will gain hands-on exposure to the full tendering process, contributing to high-quality bids and developing your technical and commercial expertise within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the preparation and submission of competitive tenders for projects across multiple sectors
* Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
* Support the measurement and take-off process
* Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations
* Help build up cost plans and pricing documents
* Assist in identifying risks, opportunities, and value engineering options
* Collaborate with internal teams including planning, design, and commercial departments
* Support bid submissions and documentation preparation
Requirements
* Previous experience in an estimating or construction-related role (including placements or internships)
* Understanding of construction methods and materials
* Strong numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail
* Good communication skills and ability to work within a team
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with estimating software is advantageous
* Relevant qualification in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or similar (preferred but not essential)
