Job: Senior Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager (UK and Ireland)
Location: Battle, East Sussex, with regular travel to regional business units based in the UK and Ireland.
The Regional HSE Manager manages the day-to-day execution of the health and safety program for the company’s regional business units based in the UK and Ireland. The Regional HSE Manager is accountable for creating and maintaining a safety culture consistent with the Vortex Values and Habits.
This position is responsible for planning, preparing, organising, implementing and executing the Vortex Health and Safety Program (HASP) as well as assigning administrative and performance requirements while fully integrating with the regional business unit to support the safe production of quality work for the company’s regional business units based in the UK and Ireland.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Responsible for delivering the HSE strategy that supports corporate HSE and strategic goals.
* Demonstrate expert knowledge and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards related to HSE throughout Vortex Facilities and Operations.
* Line manage HSE Managers in regional business units based in the UK and Ireland.
* Directs and conducts routine inspections (observations and audits) of projects throughout regional business units based in the UK and Ireland, for purpose of maintaining consistency with Vortex Values and Habits, legal or site-specific standards and providing support to correct deficiencies through coaching, leadership and supervisory training, specific task training, or other corrections.
* Tracks health and safety statistics to the company safety dashboard and reports weekly KPI’s to leadership team. Develop both lagging and leading indicators.
* Create and Review Job Hazard Analysis program across all types of work and project sites.
* Conduct All-Hands Safety meetings and direct/oversee weekly safety meetings across regional business units based in the UK and Ireland.
* Conduct safety related employee training in all areas of construction health and safety; both in-classroom and on-the-job settings. Conduct and/or direct new hire safety orientations.
* Keep abreast of legal standards; research regulatory requirements, industry standards and health and safety best practices and ensure that jobsites and field staff are operating in compliance.
* Conduct incident and accident investigations focusing on proper reporting requirements, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and a continuous improvement program that creates company-wide best practices.
* Maintains and/or directs a regular attendance of the company health, safety, and environment team on company jobsites.
* Tracks deficiencies and leading indicator trends to identify repeated at-risk behavior and conditions and reports deficiencies and leads efforts to implement corrective action and processes through coaching and training.
Required Skills/Abilities:
* Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience managing HSE in the drainage, construction or utilities industry.
* Strategic thinker with ability to deliver at operational and leadership level.
* Proven record of successful HSE client and contract delivery.
* Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
* Excellent commercial awareness and HSE knowledge.
* Competent in Microsoft Office, project scheduling tools and digital reporting systems.
* Full UK driving licence required.
Education and Training:
* Relevant degree in Health and Safety or relate discipline.
* NEBOSH (or equivalent) Accreditation / Chartership or working towards is an advantage.
