Job Title: General Manager
Location: Hedge End / Southampton area
Hours: Full-time (some flexibility available)
Salary: £35k to £40k, dependent on experience plus bonus
Overview
We are seeking a General Manager to take a hands-on leadership role within a growing business that specialises in selling, maintaining, and servicing commercial lawn maintenance and agricultural equipment. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a varied role, balancing day-to-day operational management with business growth and team development.
You will be at the heart of the business, overseeing workshop operations, managing a small team, and ensuring customer satisfaction, while also driving efficiency, quality, growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
* Team Leadership & Development: Manage, motivate, and develop a small team of technicians and support staff to deliver high-quality service and achieve business objectives.
* Workshop Management: Oversee the servicing, maintenance, and repair of commercial lawn mowers and Agricultural equipment, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance at all times.
* Business Operations: Take responsibility for the smooth running of the business, including scheduling, workflow, stock management, supplier relations, and customer service.
* Sales & Growth: Support business development through customer relationship management, upselling of products and services, and identifying opportunities for new revenue streams.
* Customer Service: Ensure a professional, responsive, and customer-focused service at every stage of the sales and service process.
* Financial Oversight: Monitor budgets, costs, and profitability, providing input on pricing, forecasting, and long-term business planning.
* Health & Safety: Ensure a safe working environment in line with legal and industry standards.
Skills & Experience Required
* Desirable would be proven experience in a workshop, service, or general management role (commercial machinery, automotive, agricultural equipment, or similar industries preferred).
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and grow a small team.
* Good technical knowledge of machinery servicing and maintenance (hands-on ability a bonus but not essential).
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
* Commercial awareness and confidence in driving sales and profitability.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-first mindset.
* Ability to take ownership, work independently, and contribute to long-term business growth.
