The Brunel Building offers 802 beds, 75% of which are single occupancy. The Women’s and Children’s Centre has 152 beds. The complex includes 29 theatres and interventional suites, modern medirooms, and a 46-bed ICU. The facility integrates specialist teams from former Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals, including regional adult services and is a designated Major Trauma Centre.
The Anaesthetic department is accredited and undergoing re-accreditation. The site includes various specialized units and research facilities. The Trust is affiliated with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Applicants must reside within 30 minutes drive of Southmead Hospital for on-call duties.
Responsibilities
Relevant clinical activities include:
* Regional Vascular Network services
* Regional anaesthesia supporting trauma and plastic surgery
* ERAS services at the colorectal centre
* Robotic surgery at Bristol Urology Institute
* Complex orthopaedic, spinal, bariatric, neurosurgical, stroke, plastics, burns, breast, obstetric, and pain management services
Additional site facilities include maternity, NICU, and research teams. The post requires residency within 30 minutes of Southmead Hospital.

* MB BS or equivalent
* Full GMC registration
* CCT in anaesthesia or within six months of award at interview
* Higher academic qualification (MD/MS)
* Teaching qualification (Diploma or higher)
* European Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia
Experience
* Recent UK hospital experience or equivalent
* Minimum 6 years postgraduate experience, including 3 years as a registrar or equivalent
* Extensive experience in relevant subspecialties
* Experience with non-UK hospital systems
Knowledge
* Recent CME and training progression
* Audit experience and publications
* Understanding of NHS management and political context
* Experience in educational course organization and management
