Business Development Manager – Apprenticeships
Role Profile – Business Development Manager
Location: Office-Based (with flexibility for hybrid/field-based working)
Department: Sales
Purpose of the Role
To develop, promote, and sell a range of high-quality apprenticeship programmes, specialising in Digital Marketing and Marketer Standards, while engaging new and existing employers across key industry sectors.
• To provide a 360-degree apprenticeship service for employers wishing to engage with the organisation, ensuring a professional and compliant experience throughout the employer and learner journey.
• To act as a key account holder, supporting employers and internal delivery teams to secure quality apprenticeship starts with integrity and full ESFA compliance.
• To generate apprenticeship income by promoting funded workforce development solutions that meet both employer skills needs and the organisation’s growth targets.
• To proactively identify new employer partners within the digital, marketing, and creative sectors, opening doors to businesses seeking to upskill or recruit apprentices.
• To maximise employer engagement and represent the organisation’s brand positively within the local and regional business community, both remotely and in person.
• To build strong and sustainable employer relationships to secure repeat business, referrals, and long-term apprenticeship partnerships.
• To identify opportunities to expand the apprenticeship portfolio, with a particular focus on Digital Marketing Level 3, Marketing Assistant Level 3, and related Digital and IT apprenticeship standards.
• We are particularly looking for Business Development Managers who can open doors to employers and learners for Digital Marketing qualifications, with opportunities to extend into broader Digital and IT apprenticeship programmes.
Key Performance Indicators
• Achieve or exceed monthly apprenticeship start targets within the Digital and Marketing curriculum areas.
• Generate a consistent pipeline of qualified apprenticeship vacancies from Levy and SME employers.
• Maintain an error rate of less than 2% on employer and learner documentation.
• Demonstrate and uphold the organisation’s values, compliance expectations, and learner-centred ethos at all times.
Key Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
• Proven experience in apprenticeship business development, employer engagement, or funded training sales.
• Strong knowledge of Digital Marketing and Marketer apprenticeship standards, with the ability to discuss curriculum content and progression pathways confidently.
• Understanding of the ESFA funding environment and apprenticeship delivery model, including Levy and non-Levy employer processes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a consultative and professional approach.
• Results-driven, target-oriented, and able to manage employer pipelines effectively.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills, capable of prioritising multiple employer accounts.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as travel will be required.
