SEN Teaching Assistant (Reception – 1:1 Support)

Salary: £95–£100 per day
Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training such a recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.
About the Role:
We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming three-form entry Community Primary School in Colindale, Barnet, for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support two Reception pupils with autism.
This full-time role involves working 1:1 with one pupil in the morning and another in the afternoon. Both pupils are non-verbal, and one presents with more complex needs and may require physical support and clear boundary guidance. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in early years development.
The school is maintained by the London Borough of Barnet and benefits from a modern, fully accessible building, a resourced provision for pupils with physical disabilities, and an on-site assessment centre for pre-school children with complex needs. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 support for two Reception pupils with autism
• Use visual aids and structured routines to support communication and engagement
• Assist with emotional regulation, learning activities, and safe transitions
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO
Requirements:
• Experience supporting children with autism (EYFS experience desirable)
• Calm, patient, and resilient approach
• Understanding of non-verbal communication strategies
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
• Right to work in the UK
