Principal Infrastructure/Civil Engineer (General Civils and Residential) – Bristol. Full Time, Permanent. We are recruiting a Principal Infrastructure/Civil Engineer to join our expanding Infrastructure Engineering team in Bristol. This role offers an opportunity to deliver an exceptional service that supports sustainable and successful development with a wide-ranging portfolio of clients across the UK.
What We Are Looking For
We seek a talented individual who can deliver a high-quality service, think creatively, and collaborate to develop pragmatic and innovative design solutions to land development challenges. The candidate should have experience leading projects and teams, while also being comfortable getting hands-on with technical design and production of drawings and documentation. A strong understanding of Civil Engineering best practices and standards, and the ability to produce high-quality work on a range of projects, are essential. Use your initiative and professional judgment to support our client’s projects and goals.
Your areas of knowledge and expertise
* BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or a related degree plus 6+ years relevant postgraduate experience; ideally Chartered or Incorporated (e.g., ICE).
* Demonstrable ability to lead in the production of residential or general infrastructure development schemes, including highways, drainage, levels, and plot engineering. Experience leading major projects and managing junior team workloads.
* Design using best practices and guidance (e.g., Manual for Streets, Design and Construction Guidance, CIRIA SuDS Manual, Sewerage Sector Guidance, Building Regulations, Local Authority standards).
* Prepare drawings and calculations for private and adoptable arrangements. Experience obtaining consent and approvals (e.g., S104, S38) with watercourse bodies and key approving authorities.
* Numerate and software-literate with AutoCAD; 3D modelling (Civils3D or similar) and drainage modelling (Causeway Flow or similar).
* Ability to manage non-technical project aspects (contract management, financials, programme, resourcing) and client-facing responsibilities.
* Consultancy/private sector development background with a pragmatic approach and understanding of residential development from concept to construction.
* Effective organisational and communication skills with a collaborative approach.
* Full valid driving licence and access to a car.
