1195 - Clerical Officer - MDT/Urgent Suspected Cancer Desk
This role is a fantastic opportunity for apprentices currently studying for NVQ Level 2/3. Apprentices should note that the salary will be at the Agenda for Change Annex 21 trainee rate (up to 75% of the band) until their apprenticeship is completed.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clerical Officer to join our Cancer Services team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Trust. The post holder will provide clerical and data collection support to MDT Co-ordinators and work with the Urgent Suspected Cancer Help Desk Officers to ensure all referrals with a potential cancer diagnosis are scheduled for an appointment within two weeks of referral. You will also collaborate with the cancer services team to ensure all cancer-related government targets are met, providing excellent care and treatment for our patients. Your role is vital in maintaining high standards of care at Barnsley Hospital.
This role is key to supporting the patient journey and ensuring compliance with the 28-day standard. You need to be confident, possess excellent communication skills, and be proactive in challenging and chasing patient appointments.

Main duties of the job
The purpose of this role is to provide clerical and data collection support to MDT Co-ordinators and work alongside the Urgent Suspected Cancer Help Desk Officers to ensure all referrals are scheduled within two weeks, including:
* Assist MDT Co-ordinators in preparing and circulating patient lists for MDT discussions using information from MDT Leads, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and other team members.
* Track confirmed cancer cases in relation to National Cancer Targets after MDT meetings, alerting the MDT Co-ordinator to delays that could breach waiting time targets.
* Input relevant data from MDT meetings into the database.
* Calculate waiting time adjustments by stopping the clock and ensure these are included when uploading data to the national database.
* Process referrals into Cancer Services.
* Monitor all referrals to ensure patient attendance and record outcomes.
There will also be administrative duties to support the MDT and ensure smooth operation of cancer services, as agreed with the MDT Lead, Lead Cancer Manager, and MDT Co-ordinator. You will work with the Cancer Information Analyst to prepare complex statistics and data as required. Additionally, you will provide direct support to the Lung Health Checks Programme.
