South West Maternal Medicine Network (SWMMN) Midwife
Location: Southmead Hospital, Bristol, BS10 5NB, United Kingdom.

Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 per annum (pro rata for part‑time).
Contract: Permanent, Full‑time.
Job Summary
The Maternal Medicine Midwife will work with maternal medicine consultants to provide holistic, high‑quality care for women with pre‑existing complex medical conditions. The role involves multidisciplinary collaboration, pathway planning, leadership, data collection, audit, and research.
Responsibilities
* Deliver high quality, responsive, safe, efficient and compassionate care to women with medical conditions.
* Support the Maternal Medicine team in developing the service.
* Act as a leader and role model, adopting a flexible approach encompassing leadership, management and clinical responsibilities.
* Demonstrate pride in work and enthusiasm for quality of care.
* Develop specialist skills and knowledge to achieve autonomy as a clinical expert, providing advice to staff and team members.
* Promote a personalised women‑centred approach to care in collaboration with carers, relatives and relevant professionals.
* Continuously monitor standards and quality of care, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
* Work closely with community, network and other hospital staff to ensure an effective seamless service.
* Develop effective communication and support systems for women and their families.
* Keep accurate and up‑to‑date patient records.
* Participate in local education forums.
Person Specification
Education / Training / Qualifications
* Registered Midwife with current NMC registration.
* First degree in nursing or a health‑related subject.
* Understanding of the NMC Code of Practice and its application to practice and behaviour for staff and self.
Work Experience
* Significant relevant clinical and management experience.
* Thorough and up‑to‑date knowledge of midwifery theory and best practice.
* Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices.
* Strong interest in managing patients with complex medical conditions.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
* Highly effective verbal and written communication skills with staff, patients and relatives, including in situations of conflict or distress.
* Strong organisational skills, prioritising complex situations.
* Evidence of understanding and application of specialist knowledge.
* Willingness to seek help from senior colleagues where appropriate.
Desirable
* Ability to contribute to departmental teaching sessions.
Personal Qualities / Special Circumstances
* Good oral and written presentation skills.
* Ability to manage complex communication issues, including shared decision making.
* Able to organise own learning.
* Prepared to be flexible in working patterns.
