About the Business Unit

We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues—such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation—to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

Overview of the Role

We are expanding our transport modelling team in the Transport & Mobility Solutions (TMS) division. As a Senior/Principal Transport Modeller you will work across the UK and Europe on projects for high‑profile clients such as the Department for Transport, National Highways, East West Rail Co, Heathrow Airport Ltd, and a range of local clients. You will deliver modelling work following our best practice guidelines and collaborate with colleagues in the wider TMS division.

Responsibilities

* Work on strategic multi‑modal modelling projects.
* Project and task involvement or management of modelling projects, including survey programmes, model development, calibration, validation, demand forecasting and economic appraisal.
* Check outputs for compliance with quality requirements and industry best practice and motivate others to do so as well.
* Organise, train and mentor other modelling resources to ensure project delivery and staff/team development.
* Provide key inputs to the development of business cases and scheme assessments.
* Liaise with clients and other project stakeholders.
* Contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation.

Candidate Specification

Key attributes include a numerical degree at bachelors or masters level, or an equivalent qualification. You should have extensive experience developing highway and public transport models from first principles and be skilled in creating robust models to support decision‑making. Proficiency in modelling software such as SATURN, VISUM, EMME or CUBE and Diadem, along with survey data analysis skills and an understanding of variable demand modelling and forecasting (following TAG guidance), are essential.

Desirable skills include:

* Expertise in Geographic Information System (GIS), ArcMap, QGIS or MAPINFO.
* Knowledge of Python, SQL and other programming languages.
* Knowledge of microsimulation software such as VISSIM, PARAMICS and AIMSUN.
* A good understanding of the wider transport planning/engineering environment.

UK Immigration

Mott MacDonald Ltd. are not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK. We welcome applications from candidates who are eligible for alternative immigration routes that do not require sponsorship as a Skilled Worker today or in the future.
