Job Introduction
As an Assistant Cook for Sodexo at Hagley Catholic High School, you will assist the Cook Manager in overseeing all aspects of the food and beverage operations, including kitchen finances. You will support the Manager in ensuring the kitchen supplies are presented attractively and that the best service possible is delivered. The role offers public holidays off, including Christmas, and does not require unsociable hours.
What You Do
* Prepare, cook, present, and serve food to company standards, including breakfast, morning break, lunch, and hospitality.
* Adhere to all company compliance standards such as Food Safety, Health and Safety, Allergen Awareness, COSHH, and HACCP regulations.
* Carry out craft/skills training for catering staff.
* Ensure all service counters and food are presented to company standards.
* Guarantee that each dish served is portioned according to business requirements.
* Complete daily/weekly cleaning duties as instructed, covering food preparation and storage areas, catering communal areas, and removing waste from the catering area.
* Deliver exceptionally high standards in customer service, cleanliness, tidiness, and other operational activities.
What You Bring
* A minimum of 1 year of hands‑on cooking experience, with training on Food Hygiene and Health & Safety.
* Expertise in cooking on a large scale, supporting between 100 – 1300 students.
* Experience following recipes, preferably in a similar setting.
* Experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
* Knowledge of health and safety procedures and the importance of adhering to them.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a busy kitchen environment.
* A professional attitude, leading by example with a positive outlook.
* Basic food handling skills certification.

Package Description
* £12.80 per hour
* 25 hours per week
* Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm
* Term Time only (39‑week working contract paid over 52 weeks)
Equated pay (spread‑over pay) is a method of paying you for your contracted hours, working weeks and holiday pay spread over 12 months instead of only during work months. Further information will be supplied at interview stage.
