Permit Technician

Cheshire East Highways is responsible for managing over 2700km of highway network. Our aim is to deliver the highest possible standard of highway service throughout the Cheshire East area and deliver value for money to the residents and businesses.
This role will assist the Network Management team within the Cheshire East Authority boundary by ensuring both permitting and street works compliance with all aspects of the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991, the Traffic Management (TMA) 2004 and the West and Shires Permit (WaSP) Scheme and all other associated codes of practices.
The Role
•To perform the duties of a Permit Technician associated with Statutory & Private Undertakers and Cheshire East highway works under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA), Traffic Management Act 2004 (TMA), and the Highway Maintenance Act 1980.
•To co-ordinate, prioritise and regulate all activities within a defined area of responsibility across the highway network with a view to discharging all network management duties and ensuring the protection of the integrity of the street.
•To effectively co-ordinate the highway network by reviewing all permit applications received in-line with the West and Shires Permit (WaSP) Scheme. Also, to review and support the co-ordination in relation to Skips/Scaffolds/S50 road opening licences, S171 applications and road closures.
•Work with internal and external stakeholders and services providers to ensure the effective operation of the Council’s Lane Rental Scheme.
About You
•Knowledge of NRSWA/TMA Legislation, specifications, and relevant codes of practice
•Experience working within a Local Authority environment
•Experience of communicating with Local elected council members, members of the public, MP’s and affected stakeholders
•Knowledge of systems such as Symology/Confirm/Street Manager or other street works system
