About a Policing Career in Merseyside Police
From intelligence operator to armed officer, wherever you see yourself specialising, we\'ll help you find your beat. Police Officers are the face and voice in the community - they\'re on the ground, speaking to victims, preventing crime and making a real difference. They come from different walks of life, but are united by the same goal - to keep communities safe. From Liverpool\'s bright lights to Sefton\'s sandy beaches, you\'ll be serving a population of 1.5 million and covering a geographical area of 647 square kilometres. Being a part of Merseyside Police is a unique experience. You won\'t just be building better communities, you\'ll be building a career that counts whilst gaining a degree.
We want our people to reflect the communities we serve, people who can bring diversity of experience, people who are willing to protect our streets. It\'s not always easy, some days will be tougher than others, but the sense of pride makes it worth every second.
Inclusion and equal opportunities
Building a workforce that represents our communities is important to us. We aim to attract people with the best skills and potential and particularly welcome applications from females and Black and Ethnic Minority candidates, as they are under-represented within Merseyside Police at officer level. Our dedicated Inclusion team provides support and guidance throughout the job application process to candidates from under-represented groups. For more information about support from the Inclusion team please contact us.
PCDA Programme
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals of all backgrounds to obtain a degree whilst working and earning a full salary as a Student Police Officer. The programme, delivered in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, lasts three years and includes classroom delivery, practical application and tutorship. Time is varied between on-the-job training and frontline duties, academic modules, coursework and exams. Full details are on the PCDA information page.
If you believe you may need additional educational support, the programme offers access to classroom-based and work-based learning assessments with a view to providing reasonable adjustments to assist learning. Support may include ICT software (e.g., Dragon speech recognition or Texthelp), coloured screen overlays or additional time for completing assessments. Inform us as early as possible so we can arrange support.
You will be asked to declare any such requirements as part of the recruitment process. For police officer roles, such assistance can be made available from the National Sift stage onwards. Although there is no direct detective entry route for non-degree holders currently, vacancies exist and after probation you may request participation in the internal CID AIDES programme to pursue a detective career.
