We are recruiting a permanent Archiving Assistant based in the Edinburgh Office who will help us fulfil our archiving requirements to new and existing programmes across our Scottish Offices and to be part of the team shaping the future direction of this service.
Role
This is an excellent opportunity to further your career in archaeological archiving. If you are already working as an archaeologist or archivist, or have experience of working within archaeology, and have a strong interest in physical and digital archiving and the creation and maintenance of integrated records this post could be for you.
You will be based in our Edinburgh office and will work with our Scottish teams on a broad range of archiving tasks from projects across the country. The role will entail supporting the archiving team in the ongoing development and delivery of AOC’s archiving obligations. This will include undertaking the preparation of physical and digital material generated by field and post‑excavation work to appropriate and agreed standards, for submission to the appropriate accredited archives service.
You will work on tasks relating to the regular deposition of archive material. This will include delivery of physical material to archives as required.
About You
A motivated, professional archivist/archaeologist who is interested in developing their career with a forward‑looking company with high professional standards of work.
Essential
* Heritage or related degree level qualification/s
* Experience with working with archaeological site records
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent team member
* Good IT skills including using Microsoft Office, ability to work on your own initiative
* Adaptable to change, with ability to identify internal needs and provide information to senior colleagues
* Full, clean, manual, UK driving licence
* Right to work in the UK
Desirable
* Experience of working in a commercial heritage environment
* Minimum PCIfA (or equivalent) or working towards gaining
* Knowledge and understanding of the principles of professional archive practices, or willingness to learn
* Knowledge of Scottish and/or wider UK Archaeology
* Knowledge of digital file formats and ability to manipulate data across a range of software applications or willingness to learn
