Senior Database Engineer

We're supporting a secure, mission-critical programme seeking a hands-on Senior Database Engineer to take ownership of a 1TB+ SQL Server estate.
This is a delivery-focused engineering role - not documentation or governance. You'll build on existing analysis to validate findings, map database structures to application functionality, and implement safe, incremental improvements to performance, resilience, and security.
Key Responsibilities
1. Rationalise and optimise a large SQL Server database
2. Identify redundant/high-risk data structures
3. Implement data retention and archival strategies
4. Improve performance (indexing, partitioning, query tuning)
5. Strengthen HA, resilience, and database security
6. Safely promote schema changes through controlled release processes
