We have an opportunity for a Salaried GP, to join our team at West Rainton Surgery. We are situated very close to the A1 between Durham and Houghton Le Spring, in a purpose-built building which is has been newly renovated to accommodate our very bright and exciting future. The building work has increased the size of the building and include an additional 3 large consulting rooms, making our practice a truly great place to work.
The role is for a 2 session GP to work on a Monday, this post is fixed term for 12 months but we hope after the 12 months we can continue the role.
The practice maintains a very high QOF achievement, offering additional services such as diabetic clinics, minor surgery procedures, dermatology and sexual health.
The practice uses systmone, supported by systems such as ACCURX, GP Team Net and transcribed dictation systems.
CQC inspected the practice as Outstanding in 2025, with very high patient satisfaction, with consistently positive FFT feedback month on month.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be expected to undertake all of the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working in primary care. In accordance with the practice timetable the post-holder will make themselves available, as agreed, to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, resolving medication queries, and completion of paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion. The post-holder will ensure the highest standards of care for all registered patients.

Job responsibilities
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities typical of working in Primary Care. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether -self referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation. Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness. Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease protocols. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards. Collecting data for audit purposes. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions. Completing administratative tasks in a timely and safe manner.

* Full GMC registration
