THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking to recruit a Port Engineering Assistant to work within the Port in the Tyne & Wear area on a permanent basis. You will undertake basic daily checks and basic maintenance on bridge and gate systems
THE ROLE
17. To undertake grass cutting and horticultural maintenance, clearing leaves and litter, emptying litter and waste bins, assisting with the assembly and dismantling of the ports plant and other equipment, cleaning of plant and equipment, buildings, cabins, changing rooms and toilets, clearing debris from Port perimeter road and infrastructure, and assisting other colleagues in their work.
18. To collect parts and equipment from suppliers and service providers to the port.
19. To report and record customer requests/enquiries, where appropriate, using information technology, health and safety issues, anti-social behaviour and to report/record evidence of problems.
20. Patrol and inspect allocated routes and assess/report any defects. This will include safety inspections of facilities, if appropriate, carry out the necessary minor repairs or, if external contractors are required, to report in accordance with agreed reporting procedures.
21. To assist the Port in fulfilling its duties for examples, snow clearing, gritting under direction as required.
22. To undertake training as required for the post, off site and onsite training.
23. Undertake key holder responsibilities as and when required.
24. To work outdoors in all weather conditions. The job is physically demanding.
25. You may be required to work on weekends and Bank/Public holidays, as well as between Christmas and New Year.

27. To carry out such duties as may be required by the service as appropriate to the post.
28. Employees working with the public are the visible face of the Council. Employees must maintain clean and tidy vehicles and wear appropriate protective clothing which must be kept clean and tidy. Members of the public must be addressed with courtesy and respect at all times. Any problems in dealing with members of the public should be reported.

THE PERSON
30. Basic use of hand tools
31. Basic understanding of maintenance/engineering
32. Able to undertake visual inspections
33. Competent to complete daily logs to ensure inspections are completed
34. Driving license and experienced driver

THE PACKAGE
36. This role is paid between £24,300 - £25, 979 per annum.
37. The hours of work are Monday to Thursday 8am-4:30pm and Friday 8am-1pm.
38. Overtime is paid at single rate, except bank holidays where you will be paid a full day rate payment plus any additional hours worked.
