Overview
Dorset Council operates a diverse fleet of over 600 vehicles, including over 200 large goods vehicles supporting services like waste collection, highways, Dorset Travel, harbours and libraries. We’re recruiting an experienced Vehicle Technicians to join our busy, well-equipped workshops.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll carry out essential safety inspections, repairs and routine maintenance across a wide range of vehicles—from car-derived vans to gritters, mechanical sweepers and refuse trucks. Your work helps keep vital frontline services running with minimal downtime.
Typical Duties Include
* carrying out inspections, servicing, repairs and MOT preparation
* identifying additional defects and advising on parts
* maintaining clear and accurate records, both digital and paper
* ensuring vehicles meet legal and safety standards
* contributing to a clean, safe and organised workshop

You’ll Need
What we’re looking for
* proven experience working in a vehicle maintenance setting
* confidence servicing and repairing a wide range of vehicles
* City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent experience)
* a full driving licence (HGV desirable)
* good communication, teamwork and organisational skills
