The Sports Business Group is a market-leading team of industry specialists working exclusively on sports assignments. In particular, this includes supporting sports organisations to create efficient, effective and sustainable business models, and creating a regulatory environment which protects value and facilitates growth.

The group approaches the market via two primary routes:

Advisory: We equip our clients with world-class knowledge and insights, to seize opportunities within a rapidly evolving industry. Our breadth of expertise includes establishing long-term financial sustainability, driving transformational change and catalysing economic and social growth.

M&A: We identify, facilitate and execute M&A deals that propel the global sports industry forward via an end-to-end approach encompassing M&A strategy, lead advisory and due diligence.

Given the importance of media rights revenues to the economic model of sports organisations and investors, there is a growing need for them, and associated businesses, to have a better, more strategic understanding of sports media rights. With this context, the Sports Business Group has a vacancy for a Manager with media rights industry experience.

This role sits within the Advisory side of the group.

We are looking for a colleague to join our team as a Manager with relevant experience of working on advisory projects in the sports industry, and specific expertise in sports media rights.

Suitable candidates should have a strong track record of working on media rights-related projects and share our excitement about working with leading sports-focused organisations to enable them to thrive in an increasingly high-profile and competitive industry.

Your role will include:

* Advising sports rightsholders, broadcasters and investors with their media rights strategies;
* Providing media rights expertise to broader commercial advisory projects where media rights are a key driver/component of the work;
* Coaching and developing junior team members to become market-leading advisors;
* Assisting with market eminence activities such as the development of the Sports Business Group's leading publications, for example the Annual Review of Football Finance and the Deloitte Football Money League; and
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to write precisely and articulate complex issues in a manner that facilitates common understanding;
* Evidence of strong financial and analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Assisting on a variety of wider sports advisory assignments, using outstanding technical, commercial and project management skills;
* Being comfortable working to project deadlines, adding value on high-profile and sensitive assignments;
* Working effectively as part of diverse project teams, taking accountability for your areas of work and supporting the high-quality delivery of projects, and dealing directly with clients and other stakeholders;
* Supporting business development activities, preparing discussion materials, responding to requests for proposal and participating in the maintenance and development of client relationships.

* Ability to tackle difficult challenges and articulate complex messages, using strategic thinking, frameworks and experience to structure, articulate and deliver recommendations, tailoring messaging depending on the audience/stakeholder.
* Collaborative, proactive in nature and enjoy working as a team to understand and explore complex challenges as well as collaborating and taking the initiative to deliver project objectives.

Essentials:

* Experience of media rights negotiations with one or more counterparties to negotiate content licensing agreements, preferably related to sports media rights;
* An understanding of the media rights sales process, including rights valuation techniques and pricing/sales strategies

Personal independence

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm). Our hybrid working policy

The Sports Business Group has dedicated teams in Manchester and London. This role will be Manchester-based and include both working from this Deloitte office and/or hybrid working. Our hybrid model enables our people to collaborate, connect and innovate in both a virtual and physical capacity. As well as remote working, you'll attend your local office, virtual collaboration spaces and client sites depending on the requirements of the role.
