Job Overview
We invite a well‑motivated, conscientious person to work in a busy and developing Outpatient Department. The role will allow the individual to enhance their existing knowledge in a varied clinical setting. Duties include applying casts (training will be given), assisting with manipulations, carrying out various dressings and dealing with pre‑ and post‑op elective and trauma patients. Willingness to undertake the BCC (British Casting Course) is required. A good communicator is essential. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
* Take charge of a group of patients/clients with guidance and supervision of the person with continuing responsibility/ nurse in charge.
* Co‑ordinate the work of healthcare support workers, assistant practitioners, students and preceptorship nurse in the delivery of nursing care.
* Supervise healthcare support workers, assistant practitioners, students and preceptorship nurse of the nursing team and participate in their education and development.
* Maintain confidentiality with sensitive information (staffing, financial and patient issues).
* Record patient’s property ensuring procedures comply with Health Board policies and protocols.
* Participate in service development by contributing to the development of the team through unit/department meetings.
* Participate in the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources.
* Have awareness of own limitations and escalates to a more senior level circumstances that may be detrimental to the well‑being of patients or colleagues.

Qualifications
* Essential criteria – NMC Registered Nurse.
* Desirable criteria – Intermediate Life Support if required in clinical setting; POVA; Evidence of post registration study and training.
Experience
* Essential criteria – Post‑registration experience within an appropriate clinical area; Experience of providing holistic nursing care; Interest in developing nursing skills.
* Desirable criteria – Clear understanding of clinical governance framework; Implementation of evidence‑based practice.
Skills
* Essential criteria – Evidence of good organisational skills; Ability to negotiate and communicate with patients and all members of the multidisciplinary team; IT skills (e‑mail, MS Word); Clear understanding of contract of care; Ability to document details clearly and accurately.
* Desirable criteria – Knowledge of incident reporting policy.
Knowledge
* Essential criteria – Evidence of knowledge and application of consent, data protection, patient confidentiality and risk management with health and safety issues; Knowledge of local policies/procedures and guidelines.
* Desirable criteria – Knowledge of appraisal process; Knowledge of some management theories.
Personal/Disposition
* Essential criteria – Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to work under pressure.
* Desirable criteria – Welsh speaker.
