Job Description
Help young people feel seen, supported and safe.
As a Detached and Outreach Worker, you’ll be out in the community connecting with young people on their terms — building trust, offering guidance and opening doors to better futures. This is a role that’s about presence and persistence — showing up, listening and standing by them when it matters most.
Working Style
You’ll be based in the Borough for 5 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you’re working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you’ll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives. This role is a fixed term contract lasting till May 2026.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be based in the borough five days a week, supporting young people aged 11–19 (up to 25 if they have SEND). This is frontline work — delivering youth engagement sessions in the places young people already are: on estates, in parks and other spaces across Kensington and Chelsea. You’ll be there to listen, support and steer — running short and long-term outreach programmes, building trusted relationships and helping young people access the right support at the right time.
Sometimes that will mean gently engaging those who are harder to reach, guiding them away from risky situations. Other times it will mean mentoring one-to-one, helping someone back into education, or leading a school-based project. You’ll work closely with families, schools, social care, health, youth justice and voluntary sector partners, making sure that support wraps around each young person, not just part of them.
This is a fixed-term role until May 2026.

What You’ll Bring
You’ve got experience working with young people and understand how complex their lives can be — especially when they’re facing risks or feeling like they don’t have a voice. You know how to meet them where they are, build trust and help them take steps forward.
You’re confident leading youth sessions in different settings and have a good understanding of contextual safeguarding. You’re also comfortable collaborating with other services — knowing that no one supports a young person alone. You bring energy, empathy and imagination to your work, and you’re able to mentor, guide and support young people even when they push back.
You’ll need a degree in Youth & Community Work or a relevant qualification — or equivalent experience that shows your understanding of the challenges and your commitment to making a difference.
