The role
Main Purpose of Job This job will be undertaken as a Modern Apprenticeship and so it is recognised that the post-holder will be undertaking appropriate in-house and external training and development. To assist under supervision with all work undertaken by the farm and field services section and gain experience in a broad range of practical and field research operations. Work as part of the team providing general support to the science group. Main Duties of Postholder To undertake training both internally and externally and learn practical skills required to successfully gain modern apprenticeship. To receive training in all aspects of the work required to be undertaken by the section. To assist the fruit team managing and maintaining all fruit plots on the institute. To assist with cereal trials including sowing, maintenance and harvesting. To assist with potato trials including ground preparation, planting, maintenance, and harvest and transporting harvested crops to store. To assist with commercial cereal work including ground preparation, maintenance and harvest of crops. To assist with the maintenance of the estate and machinery used by the department. To understand and comply with health and safety regulations, the James Hutton Institute Health & Safety policy and specialist safety procedures appropriate to farm, field, and glasshouses work. Any other duties as required. Person Specification Essential National 5s, including Maths and English Able to work as part of a team.
