Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and forward thinking Cellular Pathologist to join our existing team of consultants with the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and skills in Cardiothoracic and Renal Pathology. Applicants should have a strong background in Cellular Pathology and be able to work as part of a multi-sub-specialised team. Primary reporting and MDT provision is undertaken using Digital Pathology with the Indica Halo AP system (UKAS accredited). Full training and support will be provided to transition to digital reporting.
Main duties of the job
You will be supported by a well-established specialist reporting team. The appointee, in collaboration with other Consultants, will fulfil the duties detailed in the Job Description:
* Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Cellular Pathology.
* Share appropriate clinical responsibility for Cellular Pathology with the consultant team.
* Participate in Departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
* Participate in MDT meetings.
* Undertake surgical cut up when required.
* Teaching and training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide a comprehensive Histopathology diagnostic service with full clinical liaison to:
Clinicians at NUH; other users of the histopathology service in the greater Nottingham health community; and other hospitals with service level agreements for specialist services with NUH.
Involve in training of Specialty Trainees, scientific and BMS staff; provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave; contribute to teaching of pathology to undergraduates and postgraduates within the University of Nottingham Medical School; participate in Medical Audit and Quality Control; pursue a programme of CME/CPD with the Royal College of Pathologists; participate in annual Performance Reviews and Consultant appraisals; contribute to Clinical Governance and share in administrative duties of running a clinical laboratory.
Person specification
Education & Occupational Attainments
* Full and Specialist registration (and licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligible for registration within six months of interview.
* FRCPath or equivalent.
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
Clinical Skills/Experience
* Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description.
* Ability to communicate effectively with health professionals, patients and families when required.
* Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching.
* Experience in clinical audit and governance processes.
* Training in communication skills and patient safety / human factors.
* Experience with digital pathology systems for MDT and primary reporting.
