SEN Teaching Assistant | Primary School | Blackburn
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. In this role, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with individual pupils or small groups with SEN, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or physical disabilities.
* Assist the class teacher in implementing learning activities and adapting materials to meet individual needs.
* Promote inclusion and encourage social interaction among pupils.
* Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
* Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Qualifications
* SEN Teaching Assistant qualifications or Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
* Experience working in a mainstream or special school setting.
* Training in specific SEN strategies (e.g. Makaton, PECS, Team Teach).
* Experience supporting children with complex needs or EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).
* Good literacy and numeracy skills - evidenced by GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grades 9-4 (A-C).
