The post holder will assist the Head of Financial Management and Deputy Divisional Finance Managers in the provision of sound financial information to the Senior Finance Team, Divisional budget managers and other stakeholders. The role is responsible for ensuring that all work is completed in line with local and national timetables and the Trust's Standing Financial Orders and Instructions, and for providing effective financial support and advice to the divisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce and assist in the development of accurate monthly budgetary and associated information.
* Report to the Divisional/Deputy Finance Manager on the monthly performance of designated budgets, highlighting significant movements.
* Advise, support and act as a point of contact for budget managers within the Trust.
* Provide accurate advice and detail regarding ESR and act as a point of contact with the Department.
* Assist the DDFM and Senior Divisional Finance Advisors with internal training.
* Support the Finance Continuous Improvement Agenda in day‑to‑day working.
* Accurately code prime documents and authorise the completion of expenditure and budget journals.
* Authorise and ensure all budget adjustments are accurately calculated, recorded, and actioned.
* Ensure authenticity and accuracy of all expenditure transactions, using payroll and accounts payable systems; identify and resolve incorrect payments.
* Ensure authenticity and accuracy of all expenditure accruals and recharges, both internal and external; raise debtor invoices for income due.
* Reconcile the establishments between the Finance ledger system and the Trust’s Personnel Information System.
* Interrogate and analyse various computer systems to produce financial information and reports; manage day‑to‑day responsibilities for specific systems.
* Distribute all relevant month‑end budget statements and information to budget holders in line with the timetable.
* Maintain the integrity of the coding structure in the financial ledger and develop revised summary reporting hierarchies as required.
* Keep up to date with VAT guidance and reclaim VAT through correct coding.
* Ensure all information and returns comply with the Trust’s Standing Orders & Standing Financial Instructions.
* Assist the Head of Finance Management in working with internal and external auditors.
* Assist the Financial Management Team in the annual budget setting process.
* Resolve financial queries using judgment and interpretation skills.
* Assist the Deputy Divisional Finance Manager as required.
* Provide financial analysis through spreadsheets, databases, and the ledger report writer to meet the needs of Divisional Finance Managers.
Qualifications
* Essential: AAT Member/Degree/CCAB and extensive experience using all Microsoft Office programmes.
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
* Experience using finance ledgers and other reporting systems.
* Familiarity with a wide range of finance procedures.
* Desirable: SQL knowledge.
* Power BI experience and a background working within a finance department.
* Experience working in a Management Accounts department.
* Experience training others; proven ability to communicate confidently with people at all levels and with non‑finance professionals.
