We are seeking to appoint a motivated and ambitious Second in Science with the highest personal and academic standards to support our Science Department, someone who is an outstanding practitioner, with high expectations and a record of achieving the best outcomes from their students. We are looking for someone with drive, energy, a genuine love for teaching and learning and a passion for Science.
To provide assistances in the leadership and management of the Science department. In addition to the requirements of a class teacher, specific areas of responsibility and key tasks include:
· To have an enthusiasm for the subject which motivates and supports other staff and encourages a shared understanding of the contribution Science can make to all aspects of pupils’ lives.
· To support the head of department in the day to day running of the Science faculty and develop departmental strategy.
· To strategically lead the Science faculty in the absence of the Head of Department (alongside the leadership team).
· Be responsible for ensuring students make at least expected progress, and help in the monitoring and implementation of systems, structures, policies and procedures across KS3/KS4.
· Contribute to the design, implementation, and review of an engaging and coherent Science curriculum that supports progression and high achievement for all students.
· Work collaboratively with colleagues to evaluate the impact of teaching on learning outcomes, analysing student work and progress to guide effective curriculum development.
· Report student progress regularly to the HOD and SLT link.
· Lead effective intervention for underachieving students and assist with provision within the department, with development, monitoring and evaluation at regular intervals.
· Undertake any other reasonable duties to ensure the effective running of the department.
