Head of Legal - Keltbray
Purpose of the role
The Head of Legal will provide all ‘in-house’ legal advice regarding Keltbray’s operations across all divisions reporting to the Commercial Director. The role is critical in providing pragmatic legal advice to the executive board, project teams, and support services. Acts as a key strategic advisor on risk management, contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and regulatory matters.

* Consolidated planning – the ability to consolidate and document the fundamental components of a change initiative: scope; schedule; resource requirements; budgets; risks; opportunities and issues; and quality requirements.
* Governance arrangements – the ability to establish and maintain governance structures that define clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for governance and delivery of change initiatives and align with organisational practice.
* Clients, stakeholders, and communications management – the ability to manage stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests.
* Reviews – the ability to establish and manage reviews at appropriate points, during and after change initiatives, which will inform governance of the change initiatives, by providing evaluations of progress, methodologies, and continuing relevance.
* Change control – the ability to establish protocols to alter the scope of change initiatives, implementing the protocols when necessary, and updating configuration documentation, including contracts to develop, maintain and apply quality management processes for change initiative activities and outputs.
* Budgeting and cost control – the ability to develop and agree budgets for change initiatives, and to control forecast and actual costs against the budget.
Role Specifics
* Provide early contractual advice to the Pre-Construction Director to ensure appropriate levels of contractual engagement prior to contract execution.
* Be the custodian of executed contracts.
* Work with the Head of Insurance and the Company Secretary to ensure appropriate levels of Insurances, Parent Company Guarantees, and Performance warranties are secured.
* Advise on contractual risk, joint ventures, procurement strategy, and complex negotiations.
* Provide legal oversight across all projects, particularly regarding contractual disputes with clients and the supply chain.
* Provide training, mentoring and advice to all staff regarding construction contracts in particularly JCT, NEC, I Chem E, FIDIC, and bespoke trade contracts.
* Lead on all formal dispute resolution processes whether mediation, adjudication, arbitration, or legal proceedings via court.
* Work closely with the Board and senior leaders to provide legal input into strategic decisions.
* Support the Group Assurance Director and Company Secretary in ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, governance standards, and company policies.
* Be the gateway for all external legal advice and commissions sought out with the company.
* Provide advice to the Group HR Director in all matters related to employment, retention and employees leaving the business.
* Support the Group Assurance Director and Head of Safety regarding compliance with statutory regulations regarding health, safety and welfare matters.
* Support the Group Assurance Director and Head of Environment regarding compliance with statutory regulations regarding Environmental matters
