At Anna Maher Recruitment, we’re supporting a leading global tech business in Sheffield who are looking for a Payroll Support Specialist. This isn’t your typical payroll processing role – it’s analytical, consultative, and problem-solving focused. You’ll work as part of the Customer Operations team, helping clients resolve complex payroll issues, correct data, and guide them to accurate outcomes. The role is all about investigating, calculating, and advising – not running payroll day-to-day.
Location: Hybrid - Sheffield office 3 days a week / home 2 days a week

Responsibilities
* Tackle challenging payroll queries and data discrepancies.
* Investigate and resolve issues with PAYE, NIC, statutory leave, and tax.
* Carry out manual calculations and corrections to ensure accurate reporting.
* Provide consultative support, helping customers understand and implement solutions.
* Act as an escalation point and mentor others on complex cases.
* Correct overpayments and adjust YTD figures; reconcile missing year-to-date data impacting statutory documents (e.g., P60s).
* Resolve errors with statutory leave payments across multiple months.
* Identify and correct missed NI thresholds and their impact.
What we’re looking for
* 3+ years’ payroll experience (bureau, software, or service background preferred).
* Strong knowledge of PAYE, NIC, statutory leave, and tax.
* Confidence in manual calculations and data reconciliation.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and clear communication.
* A professional payroll qualification (CIPP or similar) – desirable but not essential.
