Specialist Teaching Assistant – SEMH & ASD
A small, independent specialist school in Surrey is seeking a committed and experienced Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11–16 with autism spectrum conditions and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities:
* Provide in-class support to students with ASD and SEMH, helping them access learning and manage emotional regulation
* Build trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and resilience
* Assist in the delivery of tailored learning plans under the guidance of teaching staff and SEN professionals
* Support behaviour management using trauma-informed and relational strategies
* Contribute to a safe, respectful, and structured learning environment
Essential Requirements:
* Proven experience working with children or young people with ASD and SEMH
* Strong understanding of inclusive education and behaviour support strategies
* Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable learners
Desirable:
* Experience in specialist or alternative education settings
* Training in Team Teach or similar de-escalation techniques
* Familiarity with EHCPs and therapeutic approaches
