Your new role
As a Behaviour and Welfare Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the highest standards of behaviour, welfare and personal development across the school. Working as part of the Behaviour and Welfare Team, you will:
Assess and evaluate pupil behaviour patterns and contribute to setting clear targets for improvement.
Provide 1:1 behaviour support, including co-regulation, to individual learners when needed.
Support the development of staff behaviour management skills in line with the school's Positive Relationships (Behaviour) Policy.
Help deliver Sherwood's Positive Behaviour Support programmes within Gretton and across partner schools.
Plan and coordinate teaching and support for students following behaviour-related incidents.
Liaise closely with teachers, pastoral staff, senior leaders and the onsite therapy team to ensure a consistent, joined-up approach.
Contribute to Individual Behaviour Plans, Annual EHCP Reviews and behaviour progress reporting.
Oversee the school's point system and coordinate end-of-term rewards and celebrations.
Support with the implementation of behaviour and anti-bullying policies to ensure consistency across the school.
Build strong relationships with parents and carers to support shared behaviour goals.
This is a dynamic, hands-on role where your work will have a direct impact on the wellbeing, confidence and daily experiences of young people.
What you'll need to succeed
You will bring a strong blend of technical understanding, professional experience and personal resilience. Essential skills and attributes include:
GCSE English & Maths (A*-C) or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
Experience delivering behavioural support and working with pupils who present behavioural challenges.
Knowledge of autism and strategies to support autistic young people.
Ability to encourage positive behaviour through relational, trauma-informed practice.
Experience supporting staff to develop behaviour management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm and solution-focused.
Capacity to work effectively within a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents.
Desirable qualities include further professional qualifications, autism-specific training, and the ability to contribute to extracurricular activities.
