Principal Teacher of Guidance

We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational professional who will contribute to the effective leadership of this important area of our Student Support Services and be part of the school's ongoing improvement journey. The ideal candidate will possess strong people, operational, and strategic management skills, with the experience and knowledge to drive improvement in our student support services. Candidates should have extensive Pastoral / Guidance experience and be able to demonstrate effective caseload management to benefit young people and promote wellbeing, equity, and inclusion.
The successful individual will have opportunities for long-term professional development and will join an experienced and ambitious management team.

Education in Midlothian
Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (including 19 nurseries), and 2 standalone nurseries. Our special school, Saltersgate, supports children with various difficulties. School sizes vary from around 20 to over 1200 pupils, serving diverse rural and urban communities. Many schools have been recently built or refurbished.
Penicuik High School, established in 1937, is a co-educational, non-denominational school on the southwestern edge of Midlothian. It serves the Penicuik community and is supported by a Parent Council. The school requires refurbishment and some rebuilding, scheduled to begin on the current site in August 2024.
The Penicuik Associated Schools Group includes Cuiken, Strathesk, Cornbank, and Sacred Heart Primary Schools, with a current roll of 660 students, projected to grow to around 950.

Requirements

Registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) and a PVG check are mandatory.
Registration and PVG Scheme
* Applicants for permanent posts must be registered with GTCS.
* This role involves Regulated Work with Children under the PVG scheme. Successful candidates must join or update their PVG membership, with costs covered by the applicant, payable via salary deductions.
