Department Overview: Responsible for leading project planning, implementing, overseeing and maintaining the infrastructure and equipment compliance of all buildings and facilities for the entire site. Job Purpose: Required to build a strong and flexible senior facilities engineering team through leadership skills that can adapt to the ever-changing world of automotive manufacturing. Replace or refurbish facilities direct and indirect equipment to improve processes, efficiency and reduce operating costs. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Facilities Lead: Oversee the refurbishment of all facilities requirements onsite Leading Facilities projects: This role will lead the design and delivery of facility projects ensuring they are functional, efficient, compliant and safe. This will entail full project delivery, typically: Specification – Investigate the customers’ facilities requirements determining and identifying the most appropriate solution. This solution will then be turned into a written specification to be issued for quotation, where applicable. RFQ’s. Vendor Selection \ decision analysis – Evaluate and investigate supplier tender submissions and recommend the preferred supplier. Raising and overseeing Capex, phasing of budget spends. Creation and management of projects to a ‘master control plan’, MCP. Shipping evaluation, off site visits and ‘buy off’ prior to installation with team. Equipment Manufacture and Installation – ensure the plant and equipment operates within the targets as originally set out in the original project specification scope, ensuring all legislative, governance and company compliance requirements are met - ‘Can we Make’. Final Project evaluation review against initial targets. Lead project closeout reviews to gather lessons learned that can be fed back into improvements in processes and procedures. Contractor management – Responsibility for: Supervision, assignment and quality of the work of external contractors, ensuring that work is completed in accordance with AML health & safety requirements within the facilities team Management/auditing of contractor risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), Management/auditing of ‘permits to work’ generation for activities Management/auditing documentation for contractor activities inclusive of any remedial works follow up requirements. Team Leadership, typically: Lead a team of senior facilities engineers, providing training, support, mentoring and performance evaluations. Responsible for managing facilities daily team activities, holiday planning, development, inclusive of the facilities job tracker database. Ensure the department’s skills matrix is current and maintained. Plan and co-ordinate training activities for the team, in order that the department has cross-functional skills to support holidays, absence, projects etc. Management of Section KPI’s: Analyse and investigate general facilities compliance issues and prepare \ compile reports for the Manager/Senior Manager To include proactive solutions and/or recommended next actions, continuous improvement activities. Preventative Facilities Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive facilities programs for all facilities and equipment. Ensuring compliance of compressors, HVAC, LEV’s, fire pumps, generators and other site services are operating to the required standard, with the utilisation of both internal and external resources to achieve ISO 45001/14001/ISO 50001: Lead a safety-first culture within the team. Ensure projects are managed to avoid landfill. Assist Environmental team in the reduction of services costs through utilisation of the AML ‘building management system (BMS), driving energy efficiency improvements and carbon emissions reduction Layout: Support with Process Engineering, Supply Chain and Production to determine efficient station and facility layouts. Support with layout sign-off from all areas as required A level of automation knowledge would be required in areas such as conveyors, robotics etc which help develop layouts. Resources: Work with other departments to identify and prioritise facility-related projects and allocate resources accordingly. Safety Compliance: Ensure all facilities and activities comply with health and safety regulations. Factory/Buildings Compliance: Manage allocated areas of compliance responsibility for the facilities team in accordance with the ‘compliance training matrix’. Budget Leadership: Oversee the facilities project budgets, ensuring cost-effective ‘on budget’ operations. Contractor Coordination: Manage relationships with external contractors and service providers for specialised maintenance and repair work. Emergency Response: Quickly address and resolve any facilities maintenance emergencies to minimise disruption to manufacturing operations. Energy Management: Monitor and implement energy-saving measures to reduce operational costs. Record Keeping, Documentation: Maintain engineering documents and records in compliance with legal and company requirements. Experience and Qualifications Experience in a facility engineering role Experience of automated equipment AutoCAD Automotive Experience HNC/Engineering Degree or equivalent Strong leadership and communication skills, experience in managing budgets and projects, and a thorough understanding of facility maintenance, safety, and compliance.
