Maintenance Operative - St Stephens Location: Brunel Terrace, Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hourly Rate: £13.42 Job Type: Full-time, Permanent (On-site) Shift pattern: Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts About the Role We are looking for a reliable, proactive, and skilled Maintenance Operative to join our team at Careline Lifestyles. In this vital role, you will help ensure that our premises remain safe, functional, and welcoming for residents, staff, and visitors. Your work will directly support the smooth running of the home by maintaining a high standard of repair, cleanliness, and safety across the building and surrounding grounds. You will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of maintenance tasks, conducting regular inspections, and responding promptly to any issues that arise. This position is ideal for someone with a practical mindset, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe environment within a health and social care setting. Key Responsibilities Conduct daily walk-throughs of the premises to identify and report any Health & Safety hazards Maintain an electronic maintenance log, ensuring all issues are documented accurately and resolved efficiently Communicate with the Manager to verify all tasks before completion, except when dealing with emergencies Check that all lighting is functioning correctly, including replacing bulbs and fittings where necessary Keep gardens, yards, pathways, and fire exit areas tidy, safe, and clear-especially during adverse weather Inspect and maintain hot water and heating systems to ensure they operate effectively Carry out regular painting and decorating tasks, including minor touch-ups and larger repairs as needed Perform weekly inspections of drains, gutters, and external areas to prevent blockages or flooding Arrange and conduct routine testing of fire equipment, hoists, lifts, boilers, air conditioners, and other essential systems Run weekly fire drills and record outcomes in the Fire Drill Log Book Ensure all records are up to date and report any potential hazards to the Administrator or Directors for further action Be flexible and responsive to additional tasks and responsibilities as required by the organisation Promote a safe working environment by following all internal health and safety policies What You Need A proactive, hands-on approach with a strong sense of responsibility Good awareness of Health & Safety regulations and the ability to identify risks Practical maintenance skills and the ability to carry out general repairs Strong communication skills for effective teamwork and reporting Willingness to learn, adapt, and undertake training when required Ability to inspect and maintain building systems and equipment confidently About Us Careline Lifestyles is a family-run specialist provider of residential and nursing care.
