You will need to be an experienced nurse or registered health professional who wishes to train as a Clinical endoscopist.
We are looking for a motivated individual with a passion for endoscopy. The successful applicant must possess excellent communication and organisational/time management skills.
This post is a training opportunity to train in both Upper and Lower GI endoscopy. Full support and supervision will be provided as well as training lists. The training period is 3 years during which you will be paid the following:
Year 1 - 65% of top of band 8a (pa pro rata)
Year 2 - 70% of top of band 8a (pa, pro rata)
Year 3 - 75% of top of band 8a (pa, pro rata)
The role will also involve supporting the units maintain and improve JAG & GRS standards.
The role will involve working at both Chorley Hospital and the Royal Preston Hospital.
Main duties of the job
This post is a training post and will involve the post holder completing all appropriate training courses and lists within an agreed timeframe.
Upon completion of training the post holder will work autonomously and exercise a high level of clinical knowledge and practice. The role will involve undertaking diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy on both non-sedated and sedated patients; assessment of patients; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; and prescribing medication.
Working for our organisation
We are a JAG accredited unit with 2 endoscopy rooms at Chorley Hospital and 2 endoscopy rooms at Royal Preston Hospital.
Some examples of the procedures we do in the unit include:
1. ·GI procedures including; OGD/colonoscopy/flexible sigmoidoscopy/Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)/Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
2. ·As part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) we undertake FOBt lists.
3. ·Diagnostic bronchoscopies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide skilled diagnostic endoscopy, under supervision, developing the ability to make diagnoses, recognise pathology, and understand/facilitate the appropriate management required.
Responsible for developing ability to provide specialist advice in relation to patient conditions and supporting the development of specialist care plan/package through assessment to meet the physical and psychological needs of the patient.
Understand the importance of, and be able to obtain informed consent, making judgements on patient capacity, power of attorney and religious requirements.
Demonstrates skills of patient assessment, including presenting complaint, fitness for procedure/co-morbidity and medication history.
Be competent in administration of appropriate medication for procedural comfort, under supervision and mentor guidance.
Be responsible for coordinating and directing the endoscopy nursing team in the provision of care within the endoscopy rooms. Liaising with secretarial staff in dictation of patient letters and clinical follow up.
Provide clinical leadership in relation to the management of patient condition working at specialist practice level to provide mentoring, supervision and clinical advice where required to the multidisciplinary team
Take initial steps towards participation in policy development.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
4. Registered nurse or equivalent allied health professional qualification
5. Degree in nursing/specialist practice or equivalent.
6. Successfully achieved the Dip HE/ Foundation Degree Gastroenterology or have 120 credits at levels 4 and 5, and demonstrate relevant practice within the specialist field
7. Evidence of expert professional/clinical knowledge in endoscopy/gastrointestinal endoscopy.

21. Awareness of JAG accreditation and GRS standards

23. Ability to analyse and interpret complex clinical information and form judgements

24. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in endoscopy at band 5 or above
