Overview
The Out of Hours department is responsible for the provision of high quality Out of Hours General Medical Services across Dumfries and Galloway. The department employs a range of staff including General Practitioners, Advanced Practitioners, Communication Co-ordinators and Healthcare Support Workers.
Responsibilities
* Communicate and co-ordinate all professional and patient calls received into the Out of Hours Service Hub requiring the attention of a clinician during the overnight period.
* Handle calls received electronically from NHS24 or as a direct call from agreed professionals, as well as some groups of patients (e.g., Palliative/End of Life).
* Coordinate the deployment of calls to available staff including support staff and duty clinicians.
* Support the delivery of the service by working with a multi-disciplinary team.
* Undertake required training prior to commencing any shift work unsupervised.
* Work nights; the Out of Hours service operates from 8am – 8am 365 days, with training expectations over 4 weeks (initial daytime sessions to get used to the system, then overnight shifts during the remainder of training).
* These bank posts will cover Nightshifts only - hours as required by the service.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Ability to efficiently communicate and co-ordinate professional and patient calls.
* Willingness to undergo training over a 4-week period with day-time sessions initially.
* Ability to work overnight shifts as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
